Made With Paper
My first time making a full size glossy print of an image I created using the Paper by 53 app for iPad.
Even though I have only a non-retina iPad 2 - meaning my original image is only 132ppi - the print actually looks fantastic, even when examined pretty closely. If I stick the page a couple of inches from my nose, I can barely make out some jaggies - and that’s exactly how it looks on the iPad, too. It’s simply not an issue for normal viewing.
Until making this print, I had been considering upgrading to a newer model iPad just to be able to make higher resolution prints from Paper. Now I can see that I don’t need to. I suppose I could use more resolution if I wanted to print much bigger than this. But I don’t particularly like how my paintings look when upsized. That goes for photos of my works in oil or other physical media as well. My brush strokes just look funny to me when printed larger than life. So I think iPad-sized prints will suit me fine.
BTW, the color in the print actually matches how it looks on my (calibrated) computer monitor. It’s my iPad that is off, and I can see this looking at pictures from other sources, too. Ah, the joys of color management!
